WA: Australian frigate arrives at Fremantle
FREMANTLE, WA, Dec 22 AAP - HMAS Arunta has arrived back in Fremantle, after the high
seas rescue of French sailor Yann Elies off the coast of Western Australia.
A sedated Elies, who broke his leg and ribs during the Vendee Globe solo round-the-world
yacht race, was carried off the frigate in a hoist by six sailors to a throng of waiting
media.
He has been whisked away in a waiting ambulance to Fremantle Public hospital.
Elies was rescued on Saturday evening after waiting 48 hours for the Australian Navy
to come to his rescue 850 miles off WA.
