Fed: Labor calls for balanced replacement at AIRC
The federal opposition says there needs to be balance in the government's next appointmentto the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.
A vacancy has arisen with the retirement of vice-president TONY MCINTYRE.
Opposition workplace relations spokesman ROBERT MCCLELLAND says the government's made12 appointments to the commission since 1996 -- with 11 from employer backgrounds.
And Mr MCCLELLAND says just one of the 12 has been a woman -- although women make up44 per cent of the workforce.
He says he's calling on Workplace Relations Minister TONY ABBOTT to make a balancedappointment to replace Mr MCINTYRE, who he says served with fairness and distinction.
