Vic: Body of missing fisherman found
MELBOURNE, April 4 AAP - A body found washed up last night on a south-east Victorian
beach was one of two fishermen missing since Sunday, police confirmed today.
The search for the other missing fishermen continues in the Snake Island area, close
to Wilsons Promontory.
Police have yet to release the name of the fisherman, whose body was discovered by
bushwalkers about 9.30pm (AEST) yesterday at the back of Snake Island.
Officers from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment were carrying out
a shore search today as water police continued to seek any trace of the man along local
waterways, police said.
Police mounted the search yesterday after the discovery of an upturned boat identified
as the vessel used by the men, aged in their 40s, one from Glengarry and the other from
Tyers, both near Traralgon.
A family member raised the alarm about 10pm on Sunday when the two men did not return
from a fishing trip.
Water police, the police air wing and Search and Rescue Squad divers were involved
in the search in the Port Albert and Port Welshpool area, near Wilsons Promontory.
State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers also joined the search to comb the shore.
Local police had found a car and boat trailer believed to belong to the men.
